Over the last few months we have discussed Epigenetics, Regeneration and the Immune System. While exploring each of these fascinating topics I couldn’t help but notice a common theme, a theme of self empowerment, as our individual ability to effect health and wellbeing became clear.

Yes, we are witnessing science catching up to spirituality! You are a creator and you can communicate with your DNA, activating the Divine presence of God within. With this activation you unlock the truth that ‘you are much more than your physical body’ and open the door to guidance and understanding of limitless universal potentials.

This common theme of self-empowerment also contains within it certain behaviors and practices that aid your physical body, your mind and your Spirit while on earth. Positive thoughts and actions are attributed to positive outcomes in every area of your life. Attention to what feels good and good feeling intentions, work hand in hand, bringing about wellbeing. One of the best feelings in life is the joy of laughter.

Laughter is defined as ‘an involuntary reaction to certain external or internal stimuli. Laughter can arise from such activities as being tickled, or from humorous stories or thoughts.’

“A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.”
                                                                                                                                       Proverbs 17:22

One of you greatest tools you have as a human is
LAUGHTER!

(Isn’t that funny?)

Click for a chuckle! Play them all at the same time for even more laughs...

Laughter is a human attribute as natural as breathing, a mind body connection that elevates the Soul, an innate ability which expresses satisfaction and joy, a universal language understood by all regardless of cultural origin. Observations have shown blind and deaf children laugh when satisfied and happy, despite not being able to see or hear this trait in another.

Although a powerful tool in healing, laughter hasn’t been a priority in the scientific community. However, Gelotologists ~ scientists who study laughter ~ know that laughter has a beneficial effect on our bodies.

Gelotology is the study of humor and laughter, and its psychological and physiological effects on the human body. Thanks to gelotology we have some understanding of all the benefits that reside in a chuckle.

Some affects of laughter are a result of activities in different regions of the brain that are triggered by laughter itself. Studies have shown that brain regions normally involved in emotion, cognition, vision and movement all respond to laughter. One example of this is the midbrain and hypothalamus (where dopamine is released) which are activated by laughter. Laughter also stimulates the release of other ‘feel-good’ substances including endorphins and growth hormones, which play a role in metabolism. These substances, along with others released in response to laughter, have many positive physiological effects.

The effects of laughter are all positive in terms of your health. To paraphrase Mary Poppins, 'the more you laugh the healthier and happier you will be!'

In an excerpt from his new book, My Spiritual Journey, The Dalai Lama shares his belief in the surprising power of laughter,

“I have been confronted with many difficulties throughout the course of my life, and my country is going through a critical period. But I laugh often, and my laughter is contagious. When people ask me how I find the strength to laugh now, I reply that I am a professional laugher.”
